I believe that the most important aspect in teaching is to focus on the needs of the learner and what they hope to gain from the interaction. Students all come to the table with different goals and objectives. Although there are always core benchmarks that need to be met, I think it is important to remember that education is not one size fits all.
The role of a teacher extends outside the classroom in that instructors can serve as mentors and role models. They can provide professional guidance, direction, and assist the student in not only learning the course material but also how to apply the lessons for success in the real world. Successful teachers understand that teaching the whole student involves becoming a practical example for the student. The teacher who serves as valuable resources and motivating force for students has done more than teach, he has inspired.
