Jones Valley Cubs Coding Team wins 1st Place in State Competition

JVE Cubs Coding Team wins 1st Place in State Competition. The 3 hour competition was held March 2. These students used Python coding system taught by teacher Stacey Besherse. The reward for the winning the competition is $200. Congratulations to Jones Valley Coding Team and Mrs. Besherse.

The Alabama Consortium for a Technology in Education (ACTE) held its annual Team Programming Challenge on March 2. Participants were students in grade 5-12 from all over Alabama. The competition was divided into 4 levels of competition. Students competed for three hours using their coding skills to answer questions. Students could select from 4 coding languages: C99, C++11, Java or Python3. Mrs. Besherse has found Python to be an easier transition from the Block-based coding she uses to teach beginning coding in class, so Python is her choice to introduce text-based coding.

The Jones Valley Cubs took 1st place in the State of Alabama with a cash prize of $200.00!

Congratulations to Aiden Smith, 6th grade, Reid Geohagan, 6th grade, and Sawyer DeBolt, 5th grade.
