Creative Writing Magnet
Creative Writing Magnet students explore all genres of writing as well as the many dimensions of publishing. Students learn the basics of successful writing, so they can develop their own voices as artists. Freshman begin compiling their own literary magazines and continuing working until their senior year when they publish them and have a book signing at our Readers' Theatre event. We have a family atmosphere that allows for honest, constructive criticism with weekly workshops. Students also attend multiple professional workshops throughout the year and go teach local 8th grade students creative writing lessons throughout the city.
How to Join / Membership Requirements:
In order to complete the application process, your student must attend an audition. Please email a portfolio of varied samples of your writing (preferably pieces you wrote outside of school – including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, screenplays, etc.) to Ms. Sisson at email@example.com. Put “Creative Writing Magnet Audition Portfolio” in the subject line. Feel free to bring additional hard copies to the audition. Please contact Lee High School Magnet Coordinator Ms. Carroll at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the audition process as well as specific times and dates.
In 2017, Creative Writing Magnet student Oshea Beckford published a book of her poetry called "Roots" and Brianna Arriaga published her writing collection in a book called "The Evolution." You can check out these titles on Amazon!
