Visual Arts Magnet
The Lee Visual Art Magnet Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and unique visual art experience. Our goal is to inspire students to be lifelong advocates of the arts. Students learn to creatively problem solve while developing a strong work ethic. The program has an emphasis on art production to help students develop a strong portfolio that is a representation of their personal aesthetic. Art production is supported with a thorough investigation of art history and practice in art criticism. All classes are taught by professional artists who are actively involved in art community. Students will experience small classes and a variety of art techniques. The incorporation of guest speakers and educational field trips help to feed students’ creativity.
How to Join / Membership Requirements:
In order to complete the application process, your student must attend an audition. Please bring a portfolio of work samples. The portfolio should also include use of at least three mediums: pencil, charcoal, paint, 3-D, collage, chalk pastel, oil pastel, pen and ink (ink pen), colored pencil or markers. Bring an artist’s statement (at least 2 paragraphs telling about your art and yourself as an artist.) You will participate in an interview where you may be asked several questions including how art inspires you, why do you make art, or how you feel art will impact your life in the future. You will also be asked to do a still life drawing during the interview.
