New Mentoring Program launched: Girls with P.E.A.R.L.S

Girls with P.E.A.R.L.S was created by Ms. Michelle Scott the Assistant Principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in Huntsville, Alabama in 2021 under the leadership of Mrs. Cheryl Askew the Principal at MLK Elementary. We collaboratively worked with our founding mentor team to establish this program. Our program is mentee driven. Our goal is to engage the school and community in developing and maintaining a shared vision. All while building a strong foundation of teamwork, self-esteem, and hard work of our young ladies. Our founding mentors include: Quanisha Ford, Naressa Douglas, Brittany Garner, Shelia Martin, Elisabeth Johnson, Joy Saunders, and Jessica McClanahan.
The mission of Girls with P.E.A.R.L.S is to empower the young ladies at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School through an excellent mentoring program that will teach proper etiquette and focus on academic performance through social-emotional learning. Our vision is to nurture and empower girls of all backgrounds to reach their fullest potential by building confidence and character and achieve self-sufficiency using their voices and talents to define their goals and dreams to foster necessary changes make the world a better place. In addition, our goal is to build confidence by focusing on self-esteem, communication skills, body awareness, and academics.
