Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student. Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible for induction. Selection is based upon careful consideration of one’s scholarship, service, character, citizenship, and leadership. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student; one who excels in academics, leadership, service and character.
Using the HCS National Junior Honor Society Rubric, student candidates will be scored based on their personal statement covering leadership, service, character, and citizenship.
Leadership must be shown in classrooms or the community.
Up to 10 hours of service must be completed or (proposed with adult sponsorship)
Character is scored from the number of suspensions, office referrals, detentions, and/or silent lunches
Citizenship is scored from students involvement in school or community teams, clubs and/or organizations
