Mission Statement:
Create lifelong lovers of reading who will think critically and evaluate, use, and communicate information effectively.
Description of Services:
The Academy for Science and Foreign Language Library Media Center is a student-friendly environment that empowers students to be active, curious learners using 21st century information literacy skills. The welcoming atmosphere encourages children to be excited about reading, discovery and the creative use of technology. The Library is an extension of the classroom, a resource center that strategically collaborates with teachers to enrich the learning experiences of our students.
The Academy for Science and Foreign Language operates on a semi-flexible schedule for all student’s Pre-K through 5th grades. The rest of the week, research and small group times are available for teachers to schedule as desired. Additional check out time is also available daily. Students are involved in a variety of actives all day (reading, check out, printing and online research, Accelerated Reader tests, etc.) and may come independently or in small groups any day, at almost any time with teacher permission. We provide a variety of books for students to borrow for reading practice, information, and enjoyment.
