Welcome to the Rolling Hills Elementary Library Media Center!
Library Media Specialist: Beoncia Sharp
Direct Email: beoncia.sharp@hsv-k12.org
Hours of Operation: The library is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.
Rolling Hills Elementary Library Mission Statement: It is our goal to provide a welcoming library environment, with resources and collaboratively planned activities that encourage and empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Description of Services: The Rolling Hills Elementary library provides access to fiction/non-fiction print resources, technology and reference materials, for students and staff. Library materials are carefully selected to supplement the school curriculum, ensure diversity, and to inspire a love of reading and learning. We use a fixed/flexible schedule that provides access for all students and staff. All kindergarten through second grade classes visit the library once a week. We utilize a flexible scheduling system with the third through sixth grades class. The library is an extension of the classroom. Teachers collaborate with the library media specialist to plan small or whole group activities that incorporate library and information/research skills with classroom content on an as needed basis.
Students must be fluent readers in order to become successful, contributing members of a globally connected society. Reading is a skill that is developed through repetition and practice with appropriate grade-level texts. We use Accelerated Reader to encourage and motivate students to read independently every day.
