National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

How to Join / Membership Requirements:
Students in grades 11 – 12 who meet the requirements for membership outlined in their school’s chapter become eligible for induction into the National Honor Society. Students not selected in their 11th grade year are eligible to be reconsidered during the fall of the senior year.
Selection for membership is based on the following attributes: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
Scholarship – Scholarship is determined from the student’s school record. At a minimum, HCS students must have a weighted cumulative grade point average of 90.0, or equivalent standard of excellence. Grades below 90.0 do not round up. Additionally, in order to retain NHS membership, you must maintain the 90.0 cumulative average until graduation.
Service – Service involves contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. Students must have completed 20 hours of community service to be eligible to become a member of the NHS.
Leadership – Student leaders should be resourceful, good problem solvers and contribute ideas, both at school and in the community. NHS candidates must exhibit strong leadership skills in order to be selected.
Character – Students with strong character are cooperative, demonstrate high standards of honesty and reliability, show courtesies, concern and respect while maintaining a good disciplinary record. Prospective members will receive a letter of notification and will be required to complete an application.
Students who first meet the scholarship requirement will have an opportunity to complete a NHS Student Interest Form, detailing their accomplishments as well as their personal commitment to service, leadership and character. Assuming all requirements are met, new members are inducted during the second semester of the 11th grade year and are active members through their senior year.Link to National Organization:
