Challenger Middle School Choir

The mission of the Challenger Middle School Choral Department is to provide an atmosphere in which students can learn to succeed at singing as individuals and as a group. The choral department seeks to prepare students for success in performance, evaluation, and future choral endeavors. We strive to achieve a highly disciplined environment in which all students can learn.

How to Join / Membership Requirements:

At Challenger Middle School, choir is a year long course open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. All 6th graders take Beginning Choir. 7th and 8th grade girls take Girls' Choir and 7th and 8th grade boys take Boys' Choir. All groups study a varied repertoire of choral literature over the course of the school year and perform in two required, department-wide concerts. In addition to the vocal music that is studied and performed, all choir students learn to read music through music theory and sight-reading lessons. These lessons include but are not limited to the following topics: music symbols and notation, reading rhythm and melody at sight, and musical vocabulary. Opportunities are also given for extra-curricular honor choirs chosen by audition.
